The project
Country house refurbishment,
Somerset
CIG Construction refurbished a listed country house near Taunton for the estate’s trustees, working to the architect’s drawings and the structural engineer’s details. Flats were stripped back, repaired and fitted out with new kitchens, shower rooms, heating and electrics.
The east wing was tanked, lime plastered and re-rendered with new cast-iron rainwater goods, and fire doors, fire stopping and smoke ventilation installed throughout. The house remained in use around the works.

In the detail
Old fabric, careful repair.
Opening up revealed decayed joists, hidden asbestos and damp walls. Each was surveyed, priced and resolved with the design team before the finishes went back, so the finished rooms sit on sound fabric.
